The Spring/Summer 2008 issue of Anarchy: A Journal of Desire Armed is here.
Editorial: Anti-Imperialism: Yet Another Statist Ideology" by Lawrence Jarach
No anarchist would be in favor of imperialism (or sexism, or racism, or fascism) of course, but declaring oneself to be an Anti-Imperialist still means one of two things (and perhaps an overlap of the two). On the one hand it is an empty and passive opinion, requiring no particular strategy or action, and needing no explanation. On the other hand, it doesn’t just mean that one is against imperialism; it specifies a particular way to fight against imperialism—that is Anti-Imperialism. It still means taking sides in disputes between parties vying for government control (either trying to keep it or trying to overthrow it).
Article: Anti-Franco Activism After the Spanish Civil War by Barry Pateman
Review: Endgame by Aragorn!
Column: The Politics of Blame by Liana Doctrines
This issue of Anarchy: A Journal of Desire Armed brings us a review from Ron Sakolsky; analysis of history from Barry Pateman and Burt Green; a column by Wolfi Landstreicher, and the best new translation of Call, from France, by Lawrence Jarach (working closely with the authors). Also discussed are blame, multiple takes on the end of civilization, Allen Antliff’s latest art and anarchy book, and a vibrant dialogue as a consequence of the last issue (oddly enough Capitalism is a sore subject with many anarchists).
Reviews in this issue include a review by Ron Sakolsky of the new reprint of Diane di Prima's Revolutionary Letters. A review by A. Burkin of Come Dungeons Dark, The Life and Times of Guy Aldred. Dot Matrix reviews two titles; Peter Gelderloos's "How Nonviolence Protects the State" and Taylor Sparrow's "a Problem of Memory". Aragorn! reviews Endgame and Riding the Wind and Clayton James examines "Anarchy and Art". Media reviews include "A Steampunk's Guide to the Apocalypse", "Communicating Vessels", NY Rat, Parser, Profane Existence, the Rag, Social Anarchism, and many more.
The current events section includes information about recent tree-sits on the West Coast and protests against the Winter Olympics planned for 2010.
Website
The Anarchy: A Journal of Desire Armed website has been totally revamped. This includes an unmoderated forum (What we are calling the Cesspool) for discussions about the magazine and more. Several AJODAists continue to update their blogs (Including Aragorn!, Leona, AAA, and Kriegspiel), and the AJODA forum continues to function. Please drop a line to webmaster@anarchymag.org if there are problems with the site.
Subscriptions
We continue to need more subscribers to the magazine. We depend on them. If you read the magazine, please consider subscribing.
We offer a PDF version of the magazine for download. This is a great way to check out the magazine if you are an overseas reader. This subscription is $10 for 4 issues and will be delivered to your email box or downloadable from our website.
Also check out Little Black Cart for purchasing single copies of the magazine. In particular here is the link for Anarchy: A Journal of Desire Armed #65
Our hardcopy subscriptions are still only $20 for 5 issues and we really need to grow our subscription numbers. If you read Anarchy there is no cheaper way to get the magazine delivered to your door than through a subscription. If you shoplift it, only read back issues, or just read the copy that sits in the bathroom, see this as a plea to help out a financially strapped project. In order not to rely so heavily on mainstream distribution channels we need more subscribers. Please consider subscribing.
